The project supports the National Centre for Small and Micro Enterprises Development (NCSMED) to introduce and test the feasibility in Fiji of the Australian designed Tyson Turbine as an agro business support tool. The Tyson Turbine is environmentally friendly and pumps water generates power simultaneously. It consumes no fuel, is highly corrosion resistant, can be placed in remote and isolated locations and is operable in sea or fresh water. It is easy to install, requires no large scale supporting infrastructure and low maintenance. The project addresses one of the priorities of the Australian Aid program in Fiji - to generate local employment, promote better access to financial services, and improve livelihoods through rural enterprise development and financial inclusion programs.
