    Implementing Agency and Partnering Organizations:
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Government of Fiji
    Summary:

This project stems from severe flooding in Western, Central and Northern Divisions of Fiji Islands in January 2009. The flooding represented a 1 in 50 year event that caused extensive damage to infrastructure and the agricultural sector. The government appealed to donor partners and agencies to assist with emergency response in the affected districts. UNDP proposes to use TRAC 3 funding to provide support and contribute to the government efforts to undertake technical needs assessments following the disaster and to help formulate a transitional recovery plan. Aside from assisting with the assessment of the flooding damage, the project also assesses the national institutional capacities and strengthened for effective response to natural disasters.

    Expected Outputs:

    1. Overall assessment of impacts of severe flooding on the agricultural sector in Fiji, quantifying damage and losses.
    2. Socio-economic assessment of flood impacts on the population
    3. Transitional recovery plan to facilitate restoration of livelihoods.
