    Summary:

    PACC Republic of Marshall Islands - Addressing high evaporation rates of current water storage systems and facilities

    Adaptation measures would save at least sixty five million gallons of water a day for Majuro atoll. This will minimize the effects of future droughts and provide immediate vulnerability-reduction benefits for people of the Marshall Islands. PACC is promoting a whole-of- island approach to climate change adaptation taking a holistic view of how water is being stored and used. This will improve decision making and better understandings of the different vulnerabilities that people are facing at the community levels. Lessons learned from this project will be applicable to the outer islands of the republic.

    The overall PACC project will implement long-term adaptation measures to increase the resilience of a number of key development sectors in the Pacific islands to the impacts of climate change. This objective will be achieved by focusing on adaptation response strategies, policies and measures to bring about this result. The key development sectors this project will focus on are:

    1. water resources management;
    2. food production and food security; and
    3. coastal zone and associated infrastructure (roads and breakwater).

    To ensure sustainability of the project, regional and national adaptation financing instruments will constitute a fourth component of the project.
