MANILA, Philippines - With the support of the Philippine government, the United Nations (UN) will hold a meeting at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Manila in Makati City this week to discuss the issue of adapting to climate change.
The activity organized by the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) together with the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) scheduled from September 28 to 30 will review the outcomes of the Nairobi work programme on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change.
The Nairobi work programme, as mandated by the Parties to the Climate Change Convention, aims to assist all countries to improve their understanding and assessment of impacts and vulnerability to climate change and to make informed decisions on practical adaptation actions.
It serves a critical need of countries in their endeavours to address the expected climate change impacts, which include decreased water availability, decreased crop productivity in many parts of the world, increased frequency and intensity of storms, and loss of biodiversity and associated ecosystem services.
