A new web-based E-learning tool has been developed by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) in collaboration with the Department of Physical Geography at the University of Freiburg, Germany. The E-learning tool provides useful materials to design interactive training processes, including guided training sessions combined with self learning.

The key target audience for the tool are front line field practitioners and extension workers.

The tool is composed of four modules (each of which contains several sequential learning sessions and interactive exercises). The modules are structured along a global perspective with many specific field examples including video spots from various countries.

(1) "Climate Change" describes the scientific basis (and draws on IPCC publications with clear references).

(2) "Climate change and Food security" discusses climate change impacts on agriculture and food security, and introduces the concept of adaptation to climate change.

(3) "Preparing for Community Based Adaptation" introduces steps, methods and tools needed to prepare and launch processes for community based adaptation (CBA) on the ground.

(4) "Implementing Community Based Adaptation" provides guidance on how to facilitate local CBA implementation processes

Modules 2, 3 and 4 build to a large extent on practical experiences and lessons learned from a number of FAO field projects implemented by the Environment, Climate Change and Bioenergy Division over the last 5 years.

Additionally, Modules 3 and 4 reflect FAO's approach and philosophy on Community Based Adaptation and Disaster Risk Management.
