CRiSTAL Community Based Risk Screening Tool - Adaptation and Livelihoods
Summary:
CRiSTAL is a decision support tool developed jointly by the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Stockholm Environment Institute in Boston (SEI-US) and the Swiss Foundation for Development and International Cooperation (Intercooperation). Drawing on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) model and the Sustainable Livelihoods Framework (SLF), CRiSTAL aims to provide a logical, user-friendly process to help users better understand the links between climate-related risks, people’s livelihoods, and project activities. Specifically, CRiSTAL is intended to help project planners and managers to:
- Systematically understand the links between local livelihoods and climate;
- Assess a project’s impact on livelihood resources important to adaptation; and
- Devise adjustments that improve a project’s impact on livelihood resources important to adaptation.
