Summary:

Background

The Climate Centre supports the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and its partners in reducing the impacts of climate change and extreme weather events on vulnerable people. The Climate Centre is based in the Netherlands but serves the whole Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement, in particular in developing countries. There is a close co-operation with the secretariat of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Geneva.

Further, the guide offers information on the basics of climate change: the scientific consensus, the humanitarian consequences, and the general implications for the Red Cross and Red Crescent. This is followed by six thematic modules: Getting started, Dialogues, Communications, Disaster management, Community-based disaster risk reduction and Health. Each module begins with a background section with real-life Red Cross and Red Crescent experiences and perspectives, followed by a “how-to” section with specific step-by-step guidance.
