During recent years, “Climate Change” has been on the top of national as well as international agendas. United Nations have established the Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the reports of its International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) have provided strong scientific evidence on the causes and impacts of climatic change. The recent COP15 meeting in Copenhagen failed to agree on coherent mitigation action against the dominant GHG emission sources, and it now seems likely that the changes and their impacts will exceed the recommendations of the IPCC. Accordingly, the most vulnerably countries in the developing world may expect even larger impacts to their natural resources of land, water and ecosystems. Therefore, Government is now faced with an urgent need to establish appropriate adaptation measures, in order to reduce adverse impacts on national socio-economic development. A first and very crucial step in such efforts is the establishment of comprehensive and logically structured adaptation strategies, as the overall framework for subsequent action plans.

Led by Dr. Mogens Dyhr-Nielsen, this workshop aims to strengthen the ability of senior government decision makers and their advisors in climate change science and development, to prepare coherent assessments, strategies, and action plans in relation to national climate change adaptation.
