    Summary:

    The main objectives of the Domestic Maritime Support Project and Technical Support Program (DMSP) are to improve the efficiency, safety and reliability of the transport sector in Solomon Islands, thereby contributing positively to economic growth and poverty reduction, particularly in the rural areas.

    Project Components:

    1. Rehabilitation or reconstruction of about 12 wharves to good condition by December 2011
    2. Engagement of Franchise Shipping Scheme (FSS) management by July 2009
    3. Design of FSS finalized and tenders called by December 2009
    4. Regular service operating on 7 rural routes by January 2010, continuing for four years
    5. Implementation assistance provided from March 2009-December 2018

    Expected Outputs:

    1. Rural Wharves constructed and or rehabilitated
    2. Franchise Shipping Scheme established and operational
