The report assesses main FP6 and selected FP7 projects and latest work programmes which examine indicators supporting the renewed EU Sustainable Development Strategy in order to identify trends and gaps in the research agenda and produce recommendations on further research. The report includes a review of over 40 research projects. It also includes suggestions for further work to rethink and restructure the SDI landscape in certain important areas.

This study looks into how the EU has fulfilled a crucial commitment within the so-called Bonn Declaration of 2001, a collective agreement of the then EU-15 and five other OECD donor countries to provide financial support to developing countries for climate change adaptation and mitigation. The report finds that although support has been provided through dedicated climate change funds, the amount of support provided falls well short of the amount pledged.
