The report synthesizes some of the policy-relevant climate science published since the close-off of material for the last IPCC report (AR4). It serves as a handbook of science updates that supplements the AR4 in time for Copenhagen in December 2009, and any national or international climate change policy negotiations that follow.

The report covers the range of topics evaluated by Working Group I of the IPCC, namely the Physical Science Basis.

Summary:

Inter America Development Fund project being implemented in Guyana, being executed by the the Sustainable Energy and Climate Change Unit for the formulation and establishment of a science-based research Programme for the Iwokrama forest. Activities under said Programme are aimed at reducing Iwokrama's vulnerability to climate change, while demonstrating how forces can continue to be used in a sustainable way to generate income for government and local communities, whose livelihoods depend on the forest. Specifically, the project will reduce vulnerability co climate change at a local level through: (i) the measurement of key impacts of climate change on areas of the Iwokrama forest under different management regimes and (ii) the design of a mechanism for adaptation and resilience to climate change.

Adaptation Experience:

The objective of the project is to contribute to the long term effort of Guyana in the formulation and establishment of science-based research Programme for the Iwokrama forest.

The outcome is to Produce a sustainable income generation source, including a sustainable forestry timber operation and a viable eco-tourism operation.

Sustainable management and conservation of Iwokrama forest, by slowing down deforestation and align national and global interest in one of the best long-term solution to deforestation
